We’re building a carriage stable to help secure the future of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR).
The four-road single-storey carriage shed near to Pickering Station, will run parallel to the railway and feature a cantilever roof which will stretch out over the current long siding to provide a fifth road.
It will have the capacity to keep nearly 40 carriages under cover, protecting them from vandalism and also from the weather.
Jacquie Blades, HR Director said: “Our staff are very privileged to be working on such a unique construction project to help secure the railway’s future.”
Gordon Eldon, pre construction manager, said: “Over the years, millions of people have enjoyed breath-taking steam and diesel train journeys through the stunning Yorkshire countryside, on these amazing trains. Our work will help keep these wonderful carriages in pristine condition and keep them safe when they’re not being used.
“It isn’t going to be an easy job, but our team are more than capable of working next to the live rail line, with the work carried out with some line blocks, but whilst going above and beyond to keep disruption to a minimum.”
